I always try to hit different places and do some new things that I have not done before when I plan my trip to Walt Disney World® Resort. This time I had my sights set on some very specific dining choices that I always hear good things about and direct clients to.
We began our dining adventure at the Sassagola Flatworks, which is the counter service location at our resort (Port Orleans French Quarter). Since we had just arrived and neither my mother nor I wanted to spoil dinner that evening we split a chicken salad Po Boy with homemade chips. It was HUGE and had three large scoops of chicken salad in it. Half was perfect and we were both comfortably full. It was time for a swim after that.
Dinner our first night was at the Whispering Canyon Cafe located in the Wilderness Lodge Resort. This is just a fun, lively, casual restaurant with good food and spunky waitresses. Genger Snap was our waitress that evening and she made sure we had all the ketchup my daughter needed for her french fries...ten bottles worth of it to be exact! When someone says they need ketchup here be prepared for random strangers to walk up to your table bringing you their bottle of ketchup. Be warned though, the next person that needs the red stuff will be expecting you to bring it all to them. It's just all part of the fun here. The menu at the Whispering Canyon Cafe consists of fish, roasted chicken, smoked barbeque ribs, brisket and pulled pork. All entrees are served with a variety of sides such as corn on the cob, baked beans, green beans, mashed potatoes etc. The bowl of garden salad that came with our meal had an apple vinaigrette dressing that was very good and not too tangy. For dessert we had the no sugar added wild berry mouse with fresh berries and the Ooey Gooey Campfire Cake, which was basically a warm chocolate cake with a little marshmallow in the middle. It was very good and very rich! You can easily split it three ways.
The next evening we decided to head over to the Polynesian Village Resort and try Captain Cook's quick service location out. This was fast, efficient and good! I had the Aloha pork sandwich which consisted of pulled pork with fresh tomato and cucumber on a pineapple coconut bun. It tasted a little like a fresh salad on a buttery bun with tender pulled pork...yuuum! I also saw several people getting the flatbread pizza, which looked wonderful. There is both indoor seating and seating outdoors on the patio that overlooks the pool area and splash pad area. We topped off our night here with a visit to the Pineapple Lanai for a Dole Whip and watched the fireworks at Magic Kingdom from the beach area here.
The next day we had lunch at 50's Primetme Cafe in Hollywood Studios.. Since I had not eaten here before I decided to try the sample platter. You get their pot roast, blue ribbon fried chicken, meatloaf, mashed potatoes and green beans. It was all good, but my favorite was definitely the Blue Ribbon fried chicken!!! Mmmm...it was light and juicy. Dessert was their chocolate peanut butter cake. That sucker was three layers of sinfulness! It's so big that I left half of it to share with my new friends I met at the table beside me that couldn't take their eyes off of it. Hahaha!! They were VERY appreciative of my kindness.
After we left Hollywood Studios we headed over to Magic Kingdom to finish up the afternoon and evening there. I managed to grab us dinner reservations at Be Our Guest, which is located in the Fantasyland area and modeled after the Beast's castle. There are three dining rooms you can be seated in and we were lucky enough to be sat in the grand ballroom. This is not a character dining experience but the Beast was introduced and after making his appearance made his way to the library where Guests can greet him and have a photo taken with him. For dinner, this location is considered to be a a table service location with candles on the tables creating a calming more relaxied atmosphere to wind down and enjoy your meal. We had the slow roasted pork and the streak. Both were fantastic!
Our next day was spent at Epcot and I wanted to make it count. The food options here far surpass any of the other theme parks just because of the variety of international choices you have. Since my daughter wanted to meet Aurora, and she's located in France, we had lunch in Paris at Le Halles Boulangerie Patisserie. This is a FABULOUS option for lunch because you can redeem a snack credit and get a warm ham and cheese croissant with bechamel or a bowl of lobster bisque. If you choose to redeem a quick service credit you get an entree, a drink and a dessert. We had the warm ham and cheese croissant and the individual quiche. Both were very good and very filling. Who doesn't love a warm, flaky croissant right? Haha
Dinner that evening was at the Garden Grill. I really like this location because the food is served family style, you get to meet Mickey, Pluto and Chip-n-Dale and the veggies are grown right there in the Land exhibit. I have a very picky crew, and they each found something to eat off the feast that arrives at your table. You begin with a basket of rolls, a huge bowl of fresh garden salad, a platter of beef tenderloin, roasted turkey, mahi mahi, mashed potatoes, veggies, Mac&Cheese and sweet potatoe fries. Really?...YES! They will bring more of whatever you want out to your table too. Then, there's dessert, which is a little hot skillet of wild berry cobbler made of raspberries, strawberries, blackberries and blueberries. If you have children in your party or just don't care for the cobbler they will bring out ice cream cone shaped cupcakes. It's a good thing there was walking involved after that dinner.
Our last day at Disney we ended it with dinner at 1900 Park Fare where we got to meet Cinderella, Prince Charming, Lady Tremaine and the step sisters. This is casual dining option and fun to see the step sisters. Lady Tremaine gave me a little scolding about not using sunscreen and getting a little red during the day. Dinner here is served buffet style a wide variety of options for children and adults. There was a salad bar area, carved meat station, vegetables, assorted side dishes, pasta and seafood options. As usual, there was also a dessert bar. I did not see a Disney Photo Pass photographer here, so be sure not to forget your camera.
All in all we enjoyed everything, found some places we will go back to again and look forward to trying more new places on our next visit this fall sometime! If you have a favorite place you like to dine while at Walt Disney World, please comment below and let me know where and why. I'd love to hear about it.
